Zsidó iskolába jártunk. Vegyes iskola volt, itt a fiúk és a lányok együtt voltak. Két tanteremből állt az egész iskola, és vaskályhával tüzeltünk. Ott volt az iskola a templomudvaron, körbe volt építve. Volt a templom, egyik oldalán a vágóhíd, ahol a sakter vágta a baromfikat. Mellette a vécé. A másik oldalon az iskola, mellette volt egy kis köz, és ott lakott a kántor. Utána volt a jesiva, ez hitoktatóterem, de imaház is volt, amikor nem voltak olyan sokan. A templommal szemben lakott a samesz a családjával meg a sakter a családjával. Szinte körbe volt zárva. És akkor középen volt az iskolaudvar, szünetben ott voltunk, meg ott volt a torna is.
Az egyik osztályban tanítónő, Ilonka néni tanított, a képen ő látható első, második, és harmadik osztályosokkal. Akkor még Schwarz Ilona volt, később férjhez ment, és Friedman Miklósné lett. De szegény ő se jött vissza, a kislányával együtt odaveszett. A másik osztályban tanító tanított. Weiss Jakabnak hívták. Az iskola igazgatója is ő volt. Odajárt a negyedik fiú, ötödik, hatodik vegyes osztály. És ő tanított, úgyhogy amíg egyik osztálynak feladatot adott, addig a másiknak előadott, a harmadiknak megint szorgalmi feladatot adott. Két padsor volt, de nem zavartuk egymást. Cháim bácsi tanította a hébert, és abból is vizsgázni kellett. Úgyhogy az alap-hébert mi tudtuk, meg imádkozni is megtanultunk. Németóránk is volt, és nagyon szerettem iskolába járni. Minden érdekelt. Nálunk az iskolában úgy volt, hogy minden év vége úgy záródott, hogy volt ünnepi vizsga. Mégpedig úgy, hogy az előkelőség — a hitközségi elöljárók — meg a szülők eljöttek, és azok előtt kellett nekünk megmutatni, hogy mit tudunk. Én meg mindig jelentkeztem.
Utána még hároméves továbbképző [lásd: ismétlő iskola] volt, azt a zárdaiskolában végeztem az apácáknál. Én szerettem ide járni, ők meg csodálkoztak, hogy mi mit tudunk. A zsidó iskolából sokan mentek ide. Általában a fiúk egy része ment a gimnáziumba, lányok nem, mert fiúgimnázium volt, a többiek meg ide, vagy elmentek ipari tanulónak.
Én nem vagyok rajta a képen, ami 1936-ban készült, az öcsém meg a húgom vannak rajta. Izraelből kaptam a képet egy túlélőtől, aki itt van a képen, neki megvolt, sokszorosította, és kaptam egyet. A képen van Frank Klári, ő férjhez ment  és Amerikában él. Haller Vera, ő nem jött vissza. Schwarz Jutka, azt hiszem nem jött vissza. Grünwald Klári, ő se jött vissza. Hofstetter Márta, ő se jött vissza. A Steinetz lány, ő se jött vissza, a Steinetz fiú, ő se jött vissza. Klein Gabi se jött vissza, ő a barátnőmnek volt az öccse. Ők Auschwitzban voltak. Az összes közül ha öten viszajöttek. Nem jöttek vissza, mert még gyerekek voltak, olyan 15-16 évesek.
