We cordially invite and welcome everyone to the 13th Lili Groszmann Memorial Walk, where we will collectively commemorate the tragic fate of the Jewish communities of Cserépfalu and the surrounding area, and pay our respects to the memory of the victims.
Date: Sunday, May 24, 2026, 9:00 a.m.
Starting point: Cserépfalu, Drága Marika✞ Bükkalja Café
This year’s event is particularly significant: Lili Groszmann, who was 18 years old in 1944, was the only sibling to survive the Holocaust, and her descendants living in Israel will also be present at the memorial walk so that we may remember together and connect to the past and the future through personal stories. Graphic artist Sandor Püski supported the creation of the program’s poster and invitation.

Nature of the walk
The entire route is approximately 17 kilometers, which we will cover in 5–6 hours.
It is possible to participate only in the Cserépfalu section, which is only about 1 km long; a detailed historical commentary will be provided here. Of course, you can join at any point and leave at any time.
All participants will receive a commemorative certificate.
Historical Background
At the end of May 1944, 931 Jewish people were deported from Del-Borsod, Cserépfalu, and the surrounding area to the Mezőkövesd ghetto. In early June, the ghetto was liquidated; those living there were taken to the brick factory in Diósgyőr and then deported from there to Auschwitz.
Lili Groszmann was 18 years old in 1944. Many in the village remembered her: she walked with the aid of a cane and a leather brace. Her short life and fate remain a poignant testimony to this day. On the day before the event, starting at 6:00 p.m. at 61 Kossuth Street in Cserepfalu, we will present the recorded memories of Ilus néni from Cserepfalu, who passed away this year, regarding her Jewish heritage; the short film will then be available for anyone to view on YouTube.
